Neila performs Donington heroics as she claims her maiden WorldWCR pole as time expires
The Sophomore rider from Madrid enjoyed her first pole after pipping Herrera at the end of the session
The FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship competitors uncorked the Prosecco DOC UK Round’s racing action as they set the grid for the weekend to come in their Tissot Superpole session. Spending most of the running tied, Neila slipped atop the timesheet after her late lap for her first career pole in the Championship. Just behind her, Maria Herrera (Klint Forward Racing Team) earned P2, ahead of Sara Sanchez (Terra & Vita GRT Yamaha WorldWCR Team) for an all-Spanish front row.
BEATRIZ AT THE BUZZER: Tied with Herrera for most of the running, she pipped the #6 by 0.140s
Beatriz Nelia and Maria Herrera showed no signs of rust after their two-month break, paving the way tied for P1 for practically the entire session up until Neila stole it away with her 1’39.687s lap as time expired to claim her first Donington pole position. Relegated to P2 behind her, Herrera finished just 0.140s slower with a time of 1’39.827s.
P3 BATTLE: Boudesseul vs Sanchez with first row on the line
Spaniard Sara Sanchez came out on top after repeatedly trading places for P3 with Rookie Lucie Boudesseul (GMT94-YAMAHA). Sanchez was the only other rider besides the two ahead of her who clocked in inside the 1’39s mark, her 1’39.928s lap claiming a front row start for her. For her part, Boudesseul has impressed at Donington so far, landing P4 in the morning’s Free Practice before her 1’40.346s time saw her place P4 in the Superpole. Home hero Chloe Jones (GR Motorsport) landed herself P5 thanks to her 1’40.661s time. Roberta Ponziani (Klint Forward Racing Team) claimed herself P6 for a second row start tomorrow. The Italian wasn’t quite as fast as we have seen her before this season, however, her 1’49.808s time was enough to place her in a competitive position for the races to come.
HOWDEN IMPRESSES: The #15 earns her best Superpole result of the season
Jessica Howden (Team Trasimeno) in P7 earned her best Superpole result of the season so far. An encouraging result for the South African, her 1’40.979s time will see her lead the third row. In P8, Pakita Ruiz (PR46+1 Racing Team) will start from the third row after a Superpole time of 1’41.219s. P9 and P10 featured Australian Tayla Relph (Full Throttle Racing) and New Zealander Avalon Lewis (Carl Cox Motorsports), earning their places with times of 1’41.848s and 1’42.160s respectively.
